During August’s congressional recess, the Drive or Our Lives bus traveled nearly 7,000 miles across the country, holding press conferences and town halls in 30 cities. After traveling from coast to coast, the bus tour stopped in Bangor to rally local activists and organizers continuing the fight to protect Americans’ access to quality, affordable health care!
“The Drive for Our Lives Bus Tour has now made appearances in 19 states, and all across the country and all across Maine, we’re hearing the same decisive message,” said Sam Portera of the Maine People’s Alliance. “Americans want more access to health care not less. Congress isn’t working to fix health care: Bruce Poliquin, Paul Ryan, and Mitch McConnell are working on the same thing they’ve been working on for years and that’s working on taking more from the very least and giving more to those with the most.”
At the event, activists and organizers sent the message that communities across the state will not wait for the GOP’s next attack on Americans’ health care and will pledge to become health care voters. Others shared their personal stories about how having health insurance through the ACA was life-changing and life-saving, and the devastation families like theirs would face if ripped away by efforts to repeal and sabotage health care.
